After the longest off-season in LGA history, a period spanning almost seven months, the 2006 season was kicked off at a
renovated Laprairie Golf Club on a beautiful and mild spring day. Most players started their season quite nicely in fact after the
long layoff. Dr. Mario Blondin took the lead after a 48 on the much longer front nine, which included a chip-in birdie on the par-3
2nd, but righthander Fred Cupholders would score four pars coming in to reduce the deficit. Mario and Fred would end the
round in a deadlock at 97, each taking their first half-victory of the campaign. With the comeback, Cupholders proved once
again that boring, keep-it-in-play and avoid the big numbers style works in the LGA. The tie also gives me another opportunity
to remind you that in the event of a tie between a lefty and a rightie, the southpaw always gets top billing. Taking third place
dishonours was 2005 Lefty Slam winner Costa Doinbiznis. It was the first time in his LGA career that 'The Biz' has started a
season with a game in double-digits, a good sign indeed. And yes, his 99 was in spite of his barf-splattering 10 on the par-5
14th. You of course recall reading just earlier about how 'most' players started their season nicely. Here's the exception (drum
roll...) Paul Hornsby III !!!. Anticipating a fine season on tee box number one, Hornsby's optimism would vanish soon thereafter.
'Da Turd' would wait until hole number 8 to score his first bogey of the season, en route to a crappy 110. Appearing to be in
pain through much of the round, Hornsby did have a couple of bright spots, including winning the beer hole with a par on 17.
"The pain was emotional", Paul assured reporters after the event.

50-60--- 110

Unseasonably warm and sunny weather greeted an all-lefty field at Caughnawaga for a rare weekday prime-time made for
television event . Unfortunately the field was far from prime time, and as usual no television crews showed up, which was
probably for the better, as Dr. Mario Blondin coasted to an easy 13 shot victory over Paul Hornsby III to take the early season
lead in tournament victories with one and a half. Blondin's round was not very interesting, with the exception of three straight
greens in regulation on 6, 7 and 8, with only two of them resulting in pars (in true LGA fashion, the other was not a birdie). The
doctor also putted a vomit inducing 43 times (including a four-putt from about 6 feet on 18), but still won easily, a testament to
the quality of his opponents. And the opposition was, in order of merit, Paul Hornsby III, who hung on to second place despite a
back nine 60 and another 110, equalling the score he posted at the season opener. Hornsby made a bad day worse with a
magot-filled 10 on the short par-4 14th. Completing the small field was Chris The 9-Iron Kid, making his first LGA appearance
of 2006. Although looking quite rusty, 9-Iron survived the round, posting a 111 which included a par. Chris almost caught
Hornsby for second place on 18 after chipping in from the fringe, but Hornsby would make his putt, leaving The Kid in the
cellar. 9-Iron's was a moral victory of sorts, he being the only player to post single-digit scores for all 18 holes.

The 2006 LGA season got into full swing (get it?) at the Cog with the first Saturday 'official' event of the year in cloudy but
comfortable conditions. Fred Cupholders scored six pars en route to his first solo victory of the campaign, bringing his total to
1.5 wins, tied with Dr. Mario Blondin for the early-season lead. The event was not as close as the scores would indicate, with
each of Fred's competitors finding a way to shoot themselves out of a win. For Paul Hornsby III, who came in second for his
best LGA finish of the year and his first double-digit round of the campaign, the lead was blown early on with a 9 on the par-4
3rd (again!!!), but 'Da Turd' would still manage to hold off a charging Costa Doinbiznis by one for the runner-up honours.
Hornsby debuted two new clubs during the round, which may have helped. Only time will tell. 'The Biz' was very much in
contention after a birdie on the par-4 14th, but his 9 on the next hole would put him too far back. It was the first time Costa hit
the century mark since July 24, 2006, a period covering nearly 9 months. Unfortunately, Doinbiznis only played in 7 events
during that time period. Finishing in the cellar and losing his undefeated status in the process was Dr. Mario Blondin. The
doctor failed to score par for the round, which really sucks. It is unclear whether Blondin was still recovering from overnight
surgery (acting as surgeon, not patient) on Thursday past, or whether his general lack of talent was the culprit in this less than
stellar performance.

Another beautiful Saturday greeted our LGA golfers at that bastion of golf and residence, Brossard. Despite the perfect
conditions, only the diehards would show, with the girliemen division (See May 2005 - Doculab Cup) coming up with a variety
of excuses (laundry, birthday party, wife said 'no', UV index too high). Nevertheless the show would go on with righthander and
2005 LGA Player of the Year Costa Doinbiznis taking his first tournament of the season by an easy eleven strokes over both of
his lefty competitors. Costa scored his second birdie on the par-4 8th, but would save his best golf for the back nine, coming in
with a 43 to take low round so far in '06. The battle for second spot was far more interesting and way more pathetic. Headed to
the beer hole 18th (won incidentally by Costa Doinbiznis), Blondin had a one shot advantage over Hornsby. Hornsby hit his tee
shot one and a half yards, while the doctor put his tee shot on the green. Hornsby would recover with two fine shots to score a
five, while Mario would five-putt (hurl!!!) for a regulation triple-bogey. That's correct, a regulation triple-bogey!!! (heave!!!) This
web site has, over the years, kept with convention and avoided the use of capitals, unlike most webmasters, but a
REGULATION TRIPLE-BOGEY!!! screams for an exception. The five putts brought Blondin's total to 42 for the day. It was the
doctor's second straight round over 100, causing some concern for lefty fans around the world. As for Hornsby, well his
season scoring average actually went down, a fact which perfectly illustrates why the LGA slogan remains, "These guys are
crap!"
