The 2003 LGA season finally got under way at a swampy Laprairie Golf Club, where Hale Erwin Norman, after being unseated
as league champion last season for the first time ever. scored par on the first hole and a birdie on 15 to come in with a
double-digit score and the first event victory of the year, an easy nine shot win over Costa Doinbiznis. Costa and Dr. Mario
Blondin were within only one and two shots respectively through nine holes, but the mighty Norman juggernaut was on too
much of a roll on this day. Speaking of 'The Biz', his second-place finish puts him (temporarily) into second rank in scoring
average this season, the highest rank of his unspectacular career. His rise may have been loftier had it not been for his dismal
play from holes 10 through 16. Falling to third place for the round was Masters and Olympic champion Dr. Mario Blondin, who,
after failing to make par during the entire 18 holes, can claim his worst career beginning to a golf season since his rookie year
in 1996. Regardless of the poor conditions, his 45-putt performance was indeed crap-tacular. Naturally sticking to the bottom of
the barrel was P.P. Hornsby, who appeared to continue where he left off at the end of '02, with more vomit-reeking play. Like
Norman, Hornsby scored par on number one, and added another on 18, but the similarities ended there. "It was like a barf
sandwich", P.P. said to reporters after the round.

After several days of steady rain combined with the early season, the fairways at the Brossard Golf Club were barely visible
through the puddles, but that did not deter our LGA heroes from getting the '03 season under way in earnest with the year's
second official event. Dr. Mario Blondin returned to the winner's circle after a steady performance thorugh the slop, carding a 97
and an easier than perceived three-shot win over Costa Doinbiznis. Mario shook the monkey off his back by scoring his first par
of the season on two, and would add three more on the day for good measure. Runner-up Doinbiznis fell back early thanks to a
crap-based 9 on the short par-4 second hole, and would never catch up despite his first birdie of 2003 on 6. Costa nevertheless
currently enjoys his lowest career scoring average thanks to his 100. If it weren't for the fact that only two events have been
played, congratulations would be in order. Rounding out the field in a third-place tie were veteran P.P. Hornsby and Al Fred, both
of whom produced similarly magot producing play. Each had 39 putts, but Fred failed to produce a single par on the day. Al had
a better excuse, however, as his appearance was his first of the season. Hornsby's back nine 55, sadly to say, was his best nine
so far this young season. Remember that in accordance with LGA rules, in the event of a tie between a lefthander and a
righthander, the lefty gets 'top billing'.
